Chemical Peel Expectations

The results that you can expect from a chemical peel will vary according to the type and depth of the peel you receive. Superficial peels produce a slight reduction in the signs of aging and skin damage, while medium peels can effectively minimize fine wrinkles and sun damage. Patients undergoing deep peels can expect more dramatic results including tightening of the skin and the elimination of many wrinkles.

Unlike many of the “miracle products” advertised on late night TV, chemical peels can actually provide great results for many people, but it’s important to have realistic expectations of what a chemical peel can do before starting a series of treatments. There is no magic, just science.

Realistic expectations:

Chemical peels can:

  • Corrects sun damaged skin
  • Smoothed fine wrinkles
  • Reduces mild scarring
  • Improves irregular discoloration
  • Smoothes rough texture
  • Improves acne conditions

Chemical peels cannot:

  • Cannot remove or reduce broken blood vessels
  • Cannot improve deep wrinkles
  • It is impossible to truly change pore diameter, however, after the procedure, the pores appear less pronounced
  • This is not a procedure to remove atrophic or hypertrophic scars

Unrealistic expectations:

  • Cannot remove or reduce broken blood vessels
  • Cannot improve deep wrinkles
  • It is impossible to truly change pore diameter, however, after the procedure, the pores appear less pronounced
  • This is not a procedure to remove atrophic or hypertrophic scars
