Combined, Glycolic and Lactic Acid work synergistically to exfoliate the skin while reducing irritation and dryness. Because of Glycolic acid's molecular structure, it penetrates quicker and deeper than other AHAs to perform at all levels of the skin. Lactic acid is an effective yet gentle AHA that increases moisture levels by stimulating the productions of glycosaminoglycans. By accelerating the cell renewal process, stimulating collagen synthesis and improving elastin fibers in the dermis, this light chemical peel revitalizes photo damaged skin and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How Does the Glycolac Acid Combination Peel Work?

The Glycolac peel is a combination chemical peel that contains 35% Lactic Acid and 25% Glycolic Acid.

Lactic acid occurs naturally in human skin as a part of normal metabolic processes. In normal skin, it helps to maintain the acid mantle of the skin at a pH of 5.5 to 6.0. Also, Lactic acid has a natural moisturizing effect on the skin; it draws water molecules already present in the skin towards the surface, and stimulates the synthesis of ceramides, improving and modulating the functional barrier. Lactic acid also works to increase the thickness of both the epidermis and the dermis by stimulating the growth of new collagen and elastic fibers in the skin, leaving the surface of the skin looking younger and smoother.

Glycolic acid is a powerful exfoliant that works primarily underneath the skin. Glycolic acid speeds up the body's exfoliation process by "loosening" the cellular bonds between dead skin cells, thus breaking them apart and causing them to "disappear". The small glycolic molecule is also able to penetrate beneath the outer layers of skin and stimulate collagen growth underneath, thus eliminating the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid functions as a humectant to pull moisture toward the surface of the skin to prevent drying.  Lactic acid also works to actively stimulate collagen growth in the dermis layer of the skin to improve skin thickness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid functions as an exfoliant by breaking down dead skin cells on the surface of the skin to allow healthy, new skin to emerge.  Glycolic acid also actively stimulates the growth of collagen in the dermis layer of the skin to improve skin thickness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Client Instructions

Peel Instructions

1. Apply 2-3 ml Glycolac/60 solution to a gauze pad and apply to the face using a gentle rubbing action. Keep the solution at least a quarter of an inch away from the eyes, lips and mucus membranes.
2. Leave Glycolic/Lactic combination peel on initially for 30 - 60 seconds, building up to 1-3 minutes as tolerance increases (you may fan the skin during this time to alleviate discomfort). Contact time of peel should not exceed 10 minutes. If redness or stinging occurs, wash off immediately.
3. Remove all traces of peel with copious amounts of water.  Pay special attention to areas around the eyebrows, behind the ears, and in the creases around the nose.
4. Pat dry with cotton or paper towel (do not rub the skin at this stage).
5. Apply a thin layer of non-comedonic moisturizer (see below).
6. The Glycolic/Lactic combination peel is designed to be used every 5-7 days in conjunction with regular exfoliation and moisturization of the skin.

FDA Guidelines fo the use of Lactic Acid are:

1. Test any product that contains an AHA on a small area of skin before applying it to a large area. If you use cosmetics with AHAs and experience skin irritation or prolonged stinging, stop using the product and consult your physician.
2. Follow the use instructions on the label. Do not exceed the recommended applications.
3. Avoid using AHA-containing products on infants and children.
4. Use sun protection if you use a AHA product.

Pre-Peel

1. Avoid using self-tanners, masks, scrubs or exfoliating agents for at least 48 hours prior to the peel.
2. Stop glycolic acid and Retin A/Renova products 48 hours before peel.
3. Do not wax facial hair for 48 hours before peel.
4. Notify us if you have a history of cold sores, fever blisters or herpes outbreak anywhere on the face prior to the application.
5. Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at lease a week prior to your peel.

Post-Peel

1. Avoid exercise and sweating (sauna) for a few hours after the procedure.
2. Avoid the use of abrasive or exfoliating sponges until face returns to normal condition.
3. Apply a fragrance free moisturizer (Neutrogena facial lotion, or Cetaphil lotion) twice a day. Avoid products containing alpha-hydroxyacids until the skin returns to normal condition.
4. Do not peel the skin, pick the skin, scrape or scratch the skin, expose the skin to sun or sun lamps, or use a mask on the skin until the skin returns to normal condition.
5. If possible delay the use of make-up for 24 hours, if you must use very lightly.
